We’ve Laid the Foundation
This week, the concrete foundation was poured for our building expansion. This project will allow Monticello Academy to serve students through 9th grade and create additional seats for families who value strong academics and a well-rounded education. As the physical foundation for the new space was set, it also provided a moment to reflect on the academic foundation our students are building.
Are our 6th graders ready for the rigors of an advanced junior high curriculum? Let’s see how our program prepares students for junior high by looking at the cumulative impact of several years of a Monticello education.
Across all tested subjects—English Language Arts, Math, and Science—Monticello Academy 6th graders lead the peer group and exceed state averages by a significant margin. In 2025:
- 82% of Monticello Academy’s 6th grade students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to a state average of 55.8%
- In English Language Arts, 62% of students were proficient, exceeding the state average of 42%.
- In Math, 56% reached proficiency, well above the state average of 35.8%.
While there’s always room for growth, our students are well-prepared for the advanced learning they’ll get in grades 7-9 at Monticello.

These aren’t just numbers. They represent future opportunity. Because of this strong academic foundation, our students will be ready to excel in Honors, Advanced Placement, and college-credit coursework in high school. They will be well positioned to qualify for scholarships, succeed in selective university programs, and pursue ambitious academic goals with confidence.
If you know any families who also prioritize excellent academics and a well-rounded education, please share the message with them because the expansions means we can serve more families! First round applications are due February 1st, 2026!
