Becca McKendrick

3rd Grade

Organized chaos is no stranger of mine. I grew up as the third oldest child in a family of twenty-two. Thirteen of my siblings have been adopted from three different countries and many of them have various special needs. Needless to say, my family has shaped my life considerably. I was taught at a very young age to be grateful for the gift of every new day, to appreciate the value of every life, and to relish the joys that can be found in every situation. I believe learning is an ongoing and thrilling quest. Knowledge is not gained merely within four walls of a classroom, nor by the intellect of just one teacher. I thoroughly love learning from each person I am blessed to associate with, big or small, and every place I visit, grand or humble. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University, but decided I could not stop there. After teaching for a year, I served a mission for a year and a half in Australia, learned to love another nation and became fluent in Aussie lingo. Upon returning, I pursued and graduated with a Master’s degree in Special Education from Northern Arizona University then found my home back in the classroom. In addition to my new Utah home, I have lived in Colorado, Korea, New Zealand, Australia, and officially hail from my home state of Arizona. I love being around people, take great pride in stretching myself beyond what I think is possible, delight in opportunities to put my American Sign Language to use, thoroughly enjoy cheering on the Utah Jazz, have been a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, am constantly reading, and am crazy enough to be finishing up my first book as an author. For me, joy is definitely found in the journey of life.
